USG FAST/EFAST Course
FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma) is a quick, screening ultrasound examination performed on patients after trauma to rapidly detect the presence of free fluid in body cavities – primarily blood. FAST allows for the assessment of:
the abdominal cavity,
the retroperitoneal space,
the pericardium.
This examination is particularly useful in emergency situations such as multi-organ injuries, traffic accidents, or falls from heights. Its aim is to quickly diagnose internal bleeding and make decisions about further treatment.
eFAST (extended FAST) is an extended version of the FAST examination, additionally including:
assessment of the pleura to detect pneumothorax (air in the pleural cavity),
assessment of the presence of fluid in the pleural cavity (e.g., blood).
Thanks to eFAST, life-threatening injuries can be identified even more quickly and effectively, especially in pre-hospital conditions and hospital emergency departments (ED).
The examinations are quick, non-invasive, and repeatable, allowing for continuous assessment of the patient.
They help in making immediate clinical decisions – e.g., about the necessity of surgery or patient transport.
They are the standard of care in emergency medicine, trauma, and intensive care.
Participants undergo training on stationary ultrasound equipment and then start training on mobile ultrasound devices such as Butterfly.
After the course, participants receive a Certificate.
Course duration is 8 hours.
